Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport in compliance with medical prescriptions. The role involves evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and providing education upon discharge. The therapist will conduct various physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory, oxygen, and aerosol equipment to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.

Responsibilities

• Administer routine treatments and operate ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor oximetry and capnography in accordance with policy.
• Review patients’ chest X-rays and perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Facilitate pulmonary function studies and assist with procedures related to respiratory care.
• Perform tracheostomy care, including emergency and non-emergency tube insertion and removal.
• Conduct arterial punctures and monitor test results efficiently.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping of treatments and patient responses to therapies.
• Communicate with attending physicians regarding therapy effectiveness.
• Maintain respiratory therapy charging accuracy and report all necessary information during handoffs.

Required Experience

Prior experience in providing respiratory care and familiarity with respiratory therapy equipment are essential for this role.

Certifications/Licensure

A valid Respiratory Therapy license is required. Candidates must also possess BLS and ACLS certifications.
