Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, focusing on intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed. This role involves evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and explaining procedures to patients while providing necessary education upon discharge. The therapist conducts physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment and devices to ensure effective medication administration, humidification, and oxygenation.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine treatments with ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Conduct chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Administer suctioning using various methods such as oropharyngeal and tracheal suctioning.
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography as per policy.
• Review chest x-rays to assess further evaluation needs.
• Assist with respiratory procedures including bronchoscopy and chest tube placements.
• Provide tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and assess ventilation efficiency.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain efficient documentation of treatments and communicate with medical staff regarding patient care.

Required Experience

• Valid respiratory therapy licensure.
• Proven experience in an acute care setting required.

Certifications/Licensure

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• ACLS certification preferred.
