Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides high-quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and transporting patients into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans while explaining the purposes and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to them. Education for discharge to home is also provided.

This role involves conducting various physician-prescribed treatments, utilizing both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, and ventilation as required. The Respiratory Therapist performs chest physiotherapy, suctioning through different methods, oximetry, capnography monitoring, and reviews chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation. They also assist in procedures, including bronchoscopy and tracheostomy care, and manage mechanical ventilation equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care and patient transport as prescribed.
• Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans.
• Explain treatments and equipment to patients and educate for discharge.
• Conduct prescribed respiratory treatments using various devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.
• Implement oximetry and capnography monitoring.
• Assist with diagnostic procedures related to respiratory care.
• Monitor and communicate patient response to therapy.
• Maintain accurate documentation of treatments and patient responses.

Required Experience

Experience in administering respiratory treatments in a clinical setting is required.

Certifications/Licensure

Must possess a valid Respiratory Therapist license and relevant certifications in BLS and ACLS.
