Schedule

Full-time with day/night variable shifts (3 shifts of 12 hours scheduled as needed) along with additional on-call shifts.

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies nursing theories, technical skills, and effective communication to provide high-quality care to patients and their families. The role involves assessing patient needs, prioritizing urgent or emergent care, delivering direct care, and evaluating patient progress. The ED RN must be proficient in various invasive and non-invasive procedures to respond effectively to life-threatening and routine emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments, prioritizing care according to triage standards.
• Establish rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing updates.
• Perform primary and secondary assessments to detect any major deviations from norms.
• Document health histories and identify contributing factors to health events.
• Manage psychosocial needs, recognizing signs of domestic violence or abuse.
• Educate patients and families on care and treatment post-emergency.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
• Maintain compliance with infection prevention strategies.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI certified).
• Two years of acute hospital experience as an RN, with at least one year in an emergency department setting.
• New York State RN Licensure.
