Registered Nurse - Post-Operative Heart Care

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of assigned patients on their shift, functioning within the health system’s mission, vision, and values. RNs will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using age-specific criteria, applying scientific knowledge and clinical skills to make informed judgments. This position requires assisting in planning, directing, and teaching non-RN staff such as LPNs, PCTs, and Unit Secretaries.

Responsibilities

• Provide post-operative care for open heart surgery patients.
• Manage chest tubes and other drains effectively.
• Deliver pre- and post-procedure care for patients with radial and femoral access.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, reading and interpreting ECG strips to identify and respond to changes.
• Assist with procedures including chest tube removal and management of temporary pacers.
• Float to all units within skill level as necessary.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Post-operative open heart care experience required.
• Critical care experience is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and advanced knowledge of cardiac and pulmonary abnormalities required.
• Active American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
• Must possess a current and valid Ohio or Compact RN license.
• Experience with non-invasive ventilation (NIV) devices and other oxygen delivery systems required.

Schedule

This position offers a 12-hour night shift with a 36-hour guarantee.
