Pediatric X-Ray Technologist
Schedule
Monday - Friday: 8am - 4:30pm; on call/callback/holidays per unit needs, with 2-3 call shifts per month.
Job Description
The Pediatric X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing x-ray procedures on pediatric patients, ensuring the safety and comfort of the patients while producing high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation. This role involves verifying patient identity, positioning patients for x-rays, and handling radiologic equipment safely.
Responsibilities
- Verify patients' identity and review physician orders before x-ray procedures.
- Use x-ray equipment to take radiographic images of patients' bones, tissues, and organs.
- Explain x-ray procedures to patients and address any questions they may have.
- Position patients appropriately, including lifting those with limited mobility.
- Handle radiologic equipment safely and keep radiation exposure minimal.
- Observe each patient's status to meet their age-specific needs.
- Produce diagnostic images for interpretation by the Radiologist.
- Notify management of any damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment.
- Utilize electronic information systems for patient verification and record keeping.
- Maintain accurate patient record keeping and ensure images are sent to the PACS system correctly.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- NYS license (or able to obtain before starting).
- Minimum of 2 years of X-ray Technologist experience; Level 1 trauma center experience preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a children's hospital.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in trauma level 1 centers.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Ability to lift or move patients and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Compassionate disposition and ability to work as a team player.
- Must be able to report within 30 minutes for on-call shifts.
