Registered Respiratory Therapist - Rotating Shift - 12 x 3

Job Description

Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, the Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Defined responsibilities are performed in all patient populations and in all patient service areas.

Responsibilities

• Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess condition and determine treatment requirements.
• Determines the most suitable method of administering inhalants and modifications needed to comply with physician's orders.
• Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders and interprets clinical data to optimize patient outcomes.
• Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, and aerosol generators.
• Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs and blood chemistry changes.
• Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patients with breathing exercises.
• Consults with physicians in the event of adverse reactions and maintains accurate patient charts.
• Assists in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responds to all code situations.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of a Co ARC approved Respiratory program required.
• 2 years of experience is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RTT) licensure.
• NRP may be required for certain facilities.
• State licensure as required.

Schedule

This position operates on a rotating shift schedule of 12 x 3.
