Registered Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, the Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. This role involves responsibilities across all patient populations and service areas.

Responsibilities

• Reads prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess conditions.
• Determines suitable methods for administering inhalants and evaluates medical orders for appropriateness.
• Sets up and operates respiratory devices, ensuring optimal parameters for treatment.
• Monitors patient responses and performs necessary therapeutic actions, including bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises.
• Conducts pulmonary function tests to support physician diagnosis.
• Consults with physicians during adverse reactions and maintains comprehensive patient charts.
• Assists in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responds to code situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.

Schedule

This position involves a rotating shift schedule of 12 hours over 3 days per week.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory program required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in respiratory therapy is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RTT) certification is required.
• State License and additional certifications (PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, PA Act 73) may be needed.
• NRP certification may be required for certain facilities.
