Schedule

This is a 13-week contract position with a night shift schedule of 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 07:00. Every other weekend is required, along with flexibility to float to other units as needed.

Job Description

The Surgical Short Stay unit is a 12-bed unit dedicated to the care of adult surgical patients, primarily those admitted from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) who stay less than 24 hours. Additionally, the unit cares for pre-operative and inpatient surgical admissions when necessary. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6, ensuring a focused and effective care environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients with a variety of conditions.
• Monitor and manage patient status during their short stay, including preparation for discharge.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient care planning and execution.
• Educate patients and their families regarding surgical procedures, post-operative care, and recovery processes.
• Utilize specialized equipment such as CBI, Doppler ultrasound, and various infusion systems for patient management.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience; experience in a short stay setting is required.
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory.
• Charge nurse experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system is preferred.
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.
