Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory services and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. This role involves evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining procedures, and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments operating various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
• Administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning through various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays for further evaluation needs.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Execute arterial puncture and evaluate ventilation efficiency.
• Adhere to policies related to laboratory testing, including specimen handling and documentation.
• Perform CPR following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment.
• Record all pertinent information regarding treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records.
• Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and data entry.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid Respiratory Therapist licensure is required.
