Respiratory Therapist - Night Shift, 4x12.0

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, working within the scope of professional license with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans, ensuring to explain the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients while providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Carry out suctioning of the patient using various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient's chest x-rays for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures (e.g., Bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, Chest Tube placement).
• Conduct tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial puncture and assess ventilation efficiency.
• Follow laboratory testing policies regarding specimen handling and equipment use.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Insert and remove endotracheal tubes using various techniques.
• Set up and self-test ventilatory equipment, maintaining and monitoring mechanical ventilation.
• Document all pertinent information related to treatments and patient responses.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Maintain accurate charging for respiratory therapy and address any errors.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

The ideal candidate must possess a valid Respiratory Therapist license along with relevant certifications to perform the duties outlined.

Schedule

This position requires a night shift schedule of 4x12.0 hours, ensuring comprehensive care for patients.
