Job Description

Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, the Radiation Therapist delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed and obtains localization images according to the planned treatment delivery. This role also assists in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization.

Responsibilities

• Perform treatment, simulation, fabrication of immobilization devices and shielding, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy procedures when applicable, according to written prescription and treatment plan.
• Collect and document data acquired during the simulation procedure and accurately input treatment-related data.
• Ensure patient safety through consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration.
• Recognize deviations from prescribed treatment delivery and report all deviations to the Chief Therapist/Physicist.
• Assure quality of treatment delivery through complete and accurate documentation of treatment records.
• Take portal images according to departmental procedures to ensure consistency of treatment portal placement.
• Explain treatment procedures to patients and/or family members, addressing their concerns and referring medical questions to appropriate personnel.
• Observe patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments and communicate this information to appropriate staff members.
• Maintain a safe, orderly treatment room while using effective communication techniques to provide explanations for treatment-related procedures.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program in a JRCERT-accredited institution.
• 2 years of experience is required.
• ARRT Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, and PA Act 73 clearances.
