Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for maintaining the delivery of quality care by ensuring that the nursing care plan is followed. The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees while promoting a focus on patient and employee safety.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing assessments on all patients within 8 hours of admission, which forms the basis for individualized care plans.
- Identify teaching needs and goals for patients based on their diagnoses through collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide timely patient information for Initial and Re-evaluation Team Conferences weekly.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in the medical record.
- Engage in patient rehabilitation programs, ensuring patient education based on identified health care needs.
- Initiate discharge planning upon patient admission and begin patient teaching early in the process.
- Communicate changes in patient status between care providers to support continuity and safety.
- Provide direction and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel, utilizing effective problem-solving techniques.
- Ensure personal and environmental safety according to hospital and nursing policies.
- Contribute positively to unit functioning by providing calm direction and reassurance to staff and families.
- Maintain communication with management regarding service needs for supplies and clinical training.
- Assume charge responsibility following orientation, as requested.
- Pursue professional development through continuing education and self-study.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- BLS Certification required prior to first shift.
- ACLS required prior to first shift (CIRH ONLY).
- Minimum two (2) years of bedside clinical experience highly desired.
