Level II Registered Nurse - Stepdown/PCU

Schedule

This position requires a rotating schedule of 3x12 hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, with on-call and callback responsibilities as needed.

Job Description

The Level II Registered Nurse is responsible for providing competent care based on established standards through clinical practice, service excellence, professional development, and research. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the nurse may assume expanded roles, including charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member duties. Candidates must have experience in stepdown or progressive care units (PCU).

Responsibilities

• Provide high acuity care for stroke and neurosurgery patients.
• Perform neuro checks, manage EVDs, lumbar drains, and sub-dural drains.
• Administer complex medications such as 3% NS and cardene drips.
• Monitor arterial lines and assist with procedures like carotid endarterectomy and aneurysm coil/clips.
• Coordinate and deliver care for patients with Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) insertions and VP shunts.
• Manage and respond to seizure events.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must have stepdown or PCU experience.
• Two years of nursing experience required.
• Current New York RN License.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association ONLY) required.
• Telemetry experience required.
• ACLS certification preferred.
• NIHSS certification a plus.
