Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) applies comprehensive nursing knowledge and exceptional communication skills to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families. The ED RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, prioritizing urgent or emergent care, collaboratively providing direct care, implementing appropriate interventions, and evaluating patient progress.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments and triage patients, establishing rapport and addressing comfort needs.
  • Perform primary and secondary assessments to identify critical health needs and document findings.
  • Utilize various procedures and interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families about care plans and post-emergency instructions, ensuring understanding.
  • Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes appropriately throughout their ED visit.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention strategies to safeguard public safety.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA or RQI).
  • Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • One year of experience in an Emergency Department setting as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current New York State RN Licensure.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a variable schedule of 3x12 hour shifts, including day, night, weekends, and holidays, with an expectation for 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period.
