Job Description

Under the supervision of the ultrasound supervisor, the Ultrasonographer assists the radiologist and other physicians in achieving scans and films to aid in the diagnosis for patients receiving ultrasound exams or sonograms. The role encompasses providing patient care activities for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, as well as the proper utilization of the Radiology Information System (RIS).

Responsibilities

• Participates in age-specific care and interactions with patients.
• Works established schedules and completes all tasks before clocking out.
• Provides basic patient care and comfort, anticipating needs and explaining procedures.
• Obtains and reviews pertinent patient history and clinical data for ultrasounds.
• Performs diagnostic procedures by producing and interpreting ultrasound images.
• Documents and records all statistical information within the RIS.
• Performs quality assurance and maintains infection control programs.
• Maintains ultrasound labs, stocking necessary supplies and disposing of linens properly.
• Adheres to professional guidelines, including HIPAA regulations.
• Maintains competency through continuing education.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Meets requirements for registry by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Preferred six months of experience in performing ultrasound procedures.
