Job Description

The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned unit. The RN ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit's standards of care, while demonstrating performance aligned with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and record initial assessments, establishing priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
• Reassess patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
• Develop and implement measurable individualized plans of care within the timeframe established by Nursing Standards of Care.
• Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on facts and evaluations of patient outcomes, modifying the plan of care as necessary.
• Participate in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
• Document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and evaluate the plan of care.
• Perform various Point of Care testing procedures as required.
• Utilize effective communication strategies to achieve intended outcomes.
• Coordinate team assignments and adjust based on patient and unit needs.
• Participate in the orientation of new staff/students on the unit.
• Maintain a professional and supportive attitude, promoting a positive work environment.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing.
• Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license.
• BLS Certification from AHA required.
• Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age/type of patient population served.
• Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients' rights in the delivery of care.
