CVOR Surgical Technologist

Job Description

The Adult Cardiac CVOR cares for a wide variety of patients, including those undergoing CABG, TAVI, and treatments for heart failure (VADs, ECMO, Artificial Heart, and Heart Transplants). Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, the OR staff provides care for patients of all ages.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures, as well as assisting the surgical team from the scrub position during operations. Additional responsibilities include the proper care and handling of instruments, facilitating room turnover between cases, maintaining sterile technique, safe handling of sharps, and performing surgical counts in accordance with hospital policy.

This position requires demonstration of proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under the direction of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Assist the surgical team from the scrub position during operations.
• Maintain sterile technique and safe handling of sharps.
• Facilitate room turnover between surgical cases.
• Perform surgical counts as per hospital policy.
• Demonstrate proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• NBSTSA Certification or 10 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
• Two (2) years of recent experience in a cardiac OR.
• Able to scrub and circulate.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY) required.

Schedule

This position involves a rotating schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and on-call duties as needed by the unit. The typical shift is 3x12.0 hours per week.
