Operating Room Scrub Technician

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Shift: 4x9 hour days, with call rotations and weekends as needed.

Job Description

The Scrub Technician participates as a team member in the planning and implementation of nursing care for each patient. The technician demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and ancillary services to provide safe patient care while maintaining a professional and courteous manner. Confidentiality and discretion are a priority when handling information related to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Clean and ensure the sterility of instruments according to proper procedures.
• Recognize and successfully complete steam autoclave and automated high-level disinfectant processes.
• Organize and select equipment and supplies based on surgical procedures.
• Prepare instrument sets according to preference lists, patient history, and age.
• Handle and operate sophisticated surgical equipment effectively.
• Maintain a sterile field and aseptic technique at all times, in accordance with AORN Standards.
• Assist in surgical draping and handling sterile supplies as needed.
• Monitor counts of all countable items on the sterile field and initiate proper protocol when counts are incorrect.
• Accurately draw up medications and label all solutions and syringes correctly.
• Assess the surgical environment for safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulations and organizational standards.
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor to new employees.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• BLS certification through AHA or RQI is required.
• OR Tech certification is required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role is required.
