Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician

Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician (MLS/MLT) is responsible for performing a wide array of laboratory procedures across various clinical laboratory areas. This role requires exercising independent judgment, evaluating present procedures, and collaborating with supervisors and coworkers to ensure efficient completion of patient testing and quality control.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interactions in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner.
• Participate in specimen collection procedures and assist as needed.
• Perform routine and high-complexity laboratory tests using Meditech and Roche analyzers.
• Evaluate and resolve instrument errors and malfunctions.
• Perform quality control measures and troubleshoot any unacceptable results.
• Analyze patient specimens, prioritizing work based on urgency to maintain workflow efficiency.
• Notify clinicians of any abnormal results requiring immediate attention.
• Educate patients and co-workers in proper specimen collection procedures.
• Record and report results accurately, paying attention to detail.
• Participate in educational activities and train new staff.

Schedule

This position requires a commitment to 40 hours per week, consisting of four 10-hour evening/night shifts.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Associate's degree in a related field for MLT or a Baccalaureate degree for MLS.
• Completion of clinical training in an approved medical technology program.
• Registered as an MLS or MLT through ASCP, AAB, or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with Meditech and Roche analyzers, and basic blood banking procedures.
• Ability to perform venipunctures and assist in patient specimen collections.
