Respiratory Care Interstate Compact (RCIC) Update: What RTs Need to Know
The Respiratory Care Interstate Compact (RCIC) has officially been activated, marking a major step forward for respiratory therapists seeking multi-state practice flexibility. While compact privileges are not yet live, this milestone signals a future with fewer licensing barriers and faster access to travel respiratory therapy jobs.
At ARMStaffing, we are ready to support respiratory therapists every step of the way.
What Is the Respiratory Care Interstate Compact (RCIC)?
The Respiratory Care Interstate Compact (RCIC) was developed by the American Association for Respiratory Care and the Council of State Governments, with support from the U.S. Department of Defense to improve licensure portability for respiratory therapists.
The compact officially activated in April 2026 after reaching the required number of participating states. A governing commission is now in place and actively working through rulemaking and system development.
While this is a major step forward, compact privileges are not yet available.
