Job Description

The House Supervisor is responsible for overseeing hospital operations during evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. The role includes making rounds to assess patient care quality, managing staffing levels for safe patient care, and ensuring compliance with established nursing processes and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Act as the on-duty administrator for all hospital departments during designated hours.
• Assess and evaluate the quality of patient care and work environment through regular rounds.
• Communicate critical issues to department heads and provide written documentation as necessary.
• Allocate nursing personnel based on acuity levels and clinical judgment.
• Ensure that patient care is provided per established standards and documented accordingly.
• Support staff orientation, training, and education initiatives.
• Participate in quality improvement programs and committees.
• Serve as a resource for hospital staff and respond to inquiries related to patient care.
• Evaluate nursing practices and participate in the revision of standards where appropriate.
• Manage time effectively to balance administrative and clinical responsibilities.

Required Experience

• Two years of recent progressively responsible leadership experience preferred.
• Emergency Department experience is required.

Certifications/Licensure

• Current Maine nursing license is required.
• BSN is preferred.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and STABLE certifications are required.
