Respiratory Therapist - Night Shift

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport into and out of the facility, as medically prescribed and within the scope of professional license with minimal supervision. The role involves evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, as well as explaining treatment purposes and procedures to patients, ensuring necessary education prior to discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment.
• Administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation through various delivery devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Suction patients using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy guidelines.
• Review chest x-rays and conduct pulmonary function studies as per established protocols.
• Assist in procedures related to respiratory care including bronchoscopy and tracheostomy care.
• Execute arterial puncture and monitor ventilation efficiency through testing.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Document all treatments and patient responses in respiratory care records accurately.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians about therapy efficiency.
• Maintain accurate therapy charging with data entry and correction of errors.

Schedule

This position requires a night shift schedule of 3x12 hours per week.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Recent experience in respiratory care and patient management.
• Knowledge of respiratory care protocols and procedures.
