Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory support and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed while operating within the scope of their professional license with minimal supervision. Key duties include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining treatment purposes and procedures, and educating patients upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory and aerosol devices, ensuring effective medication administration, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning of patients through various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography per policy, and review chest x-rays for further evaluation needs.
• Perform routine pulmonary function studies and assist in respiratory-related procedures as directed.
• Provide tracheostomy care including tube insertion and removal, and arterial puncture as per policy.
• Maintain accurate documentation of treatments and patient responses in charts and records.
• Collaborate with physicians to discuss therapy effectiveness and ensure continuity of care during shift changes.
• Maintain and operate ventilatory equipment, and assist in equipment maintenance and repair as necessary.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
