Job Description

Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. Participates in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care, functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates expertise in sterile and aseptic technique, knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the use of tools and technologies in invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Ensures all items are properly packaged and sterile, and maintains a safe operating room environment.
• Monitors the sterile field for contamination risks and initiates corrective action under supervision.
• Maintains flexibility while contributing to individualized patient care delivery.
• Models effective communication with the perioperative team, including participation in the Time Out Process.
• Assists in patient transport, room turnovers, and preparing the operating room.
• Keeps current with new technologies and procedures relevant to surgical instrumentation and equipment.
• Prepares and cleans instruments for sterilization.
• Role models the principles of a Just Culture and performs additional duties as assigned, ensuring HIPAA compliance.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Must be licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association is required.
• Must possess or be able to obtain necessary computer skills within 90 days.
• Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
