Surgical Instrumentation Technician

This position is a rotating shift, working 12 hours per day for 3 days a week.

Job Description

The Surgical Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution, and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conform and adhere to department policies concerning decontamination, sterile processing, infection control, and safety.
• Clean and decontaminate reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies, both manually and mechanically.
• Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
• Monitor, read, document, and interpret all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function.
• Maintain a working knowledge of and effectively troubleshoot all decontamination/sterilization equipment.
• Assess supplies required for prescribed standard surgical procedures and set up case carts.
• Maintain inventory, collect, disassemble, inspect, clean, disinfect, and reassemble all instrument trays and patient care equipment.
• Communicate appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
• Display awareness of cost containment by using economy in time, motion, and material.
• Perform duties in accordance with UPMC competencies and behaviors.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience is required.
• Current certification from CBSPD or IAHCSMM.
• Must have PA Act 34 clearance.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
