Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Boarder Care

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Night Shift: Agency RNs will be scheduled from Sunday night through Thursday night.

Day Shift: Agency RNs will be scheduled from Monday through Friday.

Shifts are 12 hours long, and the scheduling pattern may include weekdays and/or weeknights based on coverage needs.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide inpatient-level nursing care to admitted patients boarding in the Emergency Department while they await transfer to an inpatient bed. This role is crucial in supporting patient safety, throughput, and continuity of care during high hospital census periods.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to admitted boarder patients within the Emergency Department.
• Monitor patients and provide care appropriate to their acuity and clinical needs.
• Collaborate with ED physicians, hospitalists, ICU teams, and inpatient services to ensure effective care delivery.
• Communicate clearly with interdisciplinary teams regarding patient statuses and care plans.
• Maintain commitment to patient safety and quality care standards.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Recent inpatient medical-surgical experience is required.
• Active RN license is mandatory.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required.
• Knowledge of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is preferred.
