PACU Nurse Position

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and can be Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends/Holidays. There is no guarantee of hours or shift preference. On-call shifts may be required 0-3 times per month.

Job Description

The PACU Nurse is responsible for the care of patients during the pre-operative phase and the recovery phases (Phase I and Phase II) after surgery. The PACU nurse will possess advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and the critical care skills necessary to monitor patient stability and detect potential complications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients' recovery from anesthesia and surgery.
• Assess and manage incision sites and vital signs.
• Provide interventions to ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to deliver optimal care.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a critical care RN (ER or ICU) may substitute for PACU experience.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• A valid professional nursing license in the State of Hawaii is required prior to the start of the assignment.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is recommended and may be required for specific roles.
• Other specialty-related certifications, such as NIHSS and TNCC, are preferred.
