Respiratory Therapist - 6 Week Contract

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans based on clinical assessment.

Responsibilities

• Conducts physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices.
• Performs chest physiotherapy and suctioning by multiple methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Monitors oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Reviews patients' chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
• Performs 12-Lead EKGs and recognizes basic arrhythmias.
• Conducts pulmonary function studies and assists with procedures related to respiratory care (e.g., Bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, Chest Tube placement).
• Performs adequate drainage of the chest via PleurX catheter or similar device.
• Handles tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Conducts arterial puncture and evaluates ventilation efficiency while monitoring, recording, and reporting test results.
• Follows policies and procedures related to laboratory testing including quality controls and maintenance.
• Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Sets up and self-tests all ventilatory equipment, maintaining and monitoring mechanical ventilation on various types of equipment.
• Records all pertinent patient information regarding treatments on respiratory therapy records and in patient charts.
• Communicates effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and communicates necessary information during hand-off reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule

This position involves a day shift consisting of three 12-hour shifts.
