Job Description
The Computed Tomography Technologist independently performs imaging procedures and utilizes advanced technical skills to apply ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. The role requires sound judgment, creativity, and the ability to follow established protocols while ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.
Responsibilities
- Independently perform computed tomography (CT) procedures utilizing established scan protocols, including contrast administration.
- Adjust protocols based on independent judgment to apply ionizing radiation effectively for diagnostic purposes.
- Utilize complex imaging equipment for data acquisition, analysis, reconstruction, and documentation.
- Demonstrate skills in venipuncture and the proper use of power injectors in accordance with departmental policies.
- Administer oral, rectal, and IV contrast media per physician orders and assess patients for risk factors prior to administration.
- Engage with patients and co-workers with dignity, respect, and a compassionate attitude.
- Communicate clearly with patients, providing instructions and explanations to alleviate fears and ensure cooperation.
- Properly identify all patients using two patient identifiers and follow universal protocols during procedures.
- Review patient history and physician orders to ensure optimal data acquisition results.
- Document patient history in electronic records and ensure accurate coding and tracking of exams.
- Complete all charges for exams performed and maintain compliance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of an accredited CNMT program.
- CT registry must be acquired within 18 months of initial registry date or date of hire if primary registry is obtained.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a related role.
- ARRT Certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Compliance with state regulations (e.g., PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, PA Act 73).
