Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed. This role operates within the scope of professional licensing and with minimal supervision, focusing on the evaluation of patients and recommending appropriate treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
• Explain the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients.
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments, including operating ventilatory equipment, oxygen devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography as per policy.
• Review patient's chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with procedures relating to respiratory care, including bronchoscopy and tracheostomy care.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy records and communicate effectively with healthcare teams.
• Maintain and troubleshoot ventilatory equipment.
• Document all pertinent information regarding treatments and patient responses.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Respiratory Therapist license.
• Certification in BLS and ACLS.
• Relevant clinical experience in respiratory therapy preferred.
