Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units. The RN ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit's standards of care. This role demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization, treating staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and record initial assessment, establishing priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
- Re-assess patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
- Develop and implement a measurable individualized plan of care for the patient within the established time frame.
- Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcomes.
- Participate in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
- Implement and document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.
- Evaluate the plan of care. Perform various Point of Care testing procedures.
- Utilize effective communication strategies to achieve intended outcomes.
- Delegate unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care support activities.
- Promote a positive work environment, demonstrating professionalism and supportive attitudes towards unit staff.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing.
- Current RN license in the state of New Mexico or current compact state license.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Ability to work with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:5-6.
- Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age/type of patient population served.
