Job Description
The Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is responsible for providing high-quality care to critically ill neonates. The role involves managing patients with varying degrees of complexity, typically those in the 23-24 weeks gestational range, without ECMO support. The RN may float as needed to different campuses, primarily focusing on infants and newborns.
Responsibilities
- Administer and manage ventilators, including CPAP/BiPap and high-frequency vents.
- Perform blood and blood product administration.
- Utilize cooling/warming blankets for therapeutic hypothermia.
- Insert and manage feeding tubes, PICC, and central lines.
- Assist with high-risk deliveries and attend neonatal surgeries.
- Provide care for neonates between 29-34 weeks gestation.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Minimum of 3 years of NICU experience, ideally in a Level III or IV setting.
- BLS and NR certification required.
- Active RN license must be compact.
- Charge experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Epic charting system is a plus.
