Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

This position requires a shift from 7 PM to 7 AM, every other weekend and holiday.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions. This role fosters a patient-centered environment while ensuring safety and quality care.

Responsibilities

• Assess and reassess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient goals.
• Provide patient care in accordance with established standards of care and procedures.
• Respect patient individuality and provide dignified care.
• Educate patients and families based on identified learning needs.
• Collaboratively plan discharge processes incorporating necessary support systems.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by other staff.
• Prioritize patient care and seek assistance as needed.
• Document all pertinent data and patient responses thoroughly and timely.
• Identify risks to patient safety and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
• Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely and according to protocols.
• Monitor pain levels and the effectiveness of pain control measures.
• Complete mandated reporting related to abuse, domestic violence, and other incidents.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results.
• Conduct initial assessments upon patient arrival, including triage protocols.
• Administer and monitor thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy.
• Ensure adherence to Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) bundle protocols.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in an Emergency Department setting preferred.
• Current Massachusetts RN license required.
• ACLS certification upon hire or must obtain within 60 days; BLS certification required.
• AHA PALS certification required within six months of hire; TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred.
