Job Description

The Infusion RN is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the Consulting/infusion department. This role requires initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. The RN will prioritize care based on physical and psychosocial needs and will communicate with practitioners about changes in patient status, symptomatology, and diagnostic study results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and complete assessments of patients, coordinating interdisciplinary screenings and assessments.
  • Provide patient care tailored to the patient’s needs, age, culture, and appropriate care standards.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans and follow-up instructions, including providing education handouts.
  • Assess and manage pain medications and revise care based on patient response to treatment.
  • Prepare and administer medications in accordance with age and clinical condition, ensuring a supply of medications is maintained.
  • Manage antineoplastic agents and therapy ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Explain procedures to patients/families and assist practitioners with procedures as needed.
  • Document patient medical histories accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical errors through established protocols.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and additional duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Current IL RN License Required
  • BLS Required
  • ACLS Required
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification Required
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred, with chemotherapy experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs.
