Job Description
Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, the CT Technologist performs diagnostic CT exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment. Responsibilities include verifying patient identity, reviewing medical records for appropriateness of exams, obtaining and updating medical histories, and assessing risk factors. The technologist explains procedures to patients, including potential side effects and alternatives, sets up equipment, acquires images, and documents any exceptions from established protocols.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic CT exams following established protocols.
- Verify patient identity and review medical records to determine exam appropriateness.
- Interview patients to obtain and update medical histories, assessing risk factors.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients, including associated risks and follow-up care.
- Set up equipment and acquire appropriate images according to established scripts.
- Review images, document observations, and communicate with radiologists regarding exceptions.
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as necessary.
- Provide post-care instructions as prescribed by physicians.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and provide imaging education to new staff and students.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Must have ARRT certification in CT Tech & Radiology.
- Must have BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Must possess 2 years of recent CT and Radiology experience.
- Familiarity with GE CT and X-ray machines is required.
