Job Description

The Department of Sterile and Materials Processing operates a state-of-the-art instrument processing and sterilizing facility. The Sterile Processing Department is responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans. Our functions are supported by advanced decontamination, high-level disinfection, and sterilization capital equipment, and we maintain an efficient tracking system using Getinge’s T-DOC barcode technology.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, and surgical case carts; select the appropriate method of packaging and sterilization with consultation as needed.
• Operate steam sterilizers according to established protocols; check time, pressure, and temperature gauges frequently; load/unload sterilizers, and assure sterility through proper testing and documentation.
• Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established procedures; clean and disinfect decontamination equipment and work area.
• Receive and store supplies from vendors, verify requisitions, and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Perform daily quality assurance checks on sterile supplies and instruments, ensuring compliance with established protocols.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
• BLS certification (American Heart Association ONLY)
• Minimum of 3 years of sterile processing experience in a large hospital (500 beds or more)
• Six months of travel experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
• Two professional references from the last two assignments
