Job Description
The RN Consultant provides consultative services to assist people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in achieving their best possible health. To promote healthy lifestyles, Nursing Consultants assist individuals with daily health-related tasks, advocate with healthcare providers for routine and preventative healthcare, and present options that would improve health to individuals and their support teams.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and review healthcare records of persons served to monitor health issues and provide thorough documentation.
- Develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with the individual's circle of support, including caregivers and families.
- Conduct quality control of medication administration processes, documentation, and error reporting.
- Provide nursing support and consultation in accordance with the state's Nurse Practice Act and physician orders.
- Deliver health-related education to unlicensed workforce and individuals served (e.g., medication administration, infection control).
- Conduct comprehensive ongoing nursing assessments, planning, and monitoring of health status to promote best possible health.
- Ensure individuals receive routine and preventative health services according to their health conditions.
- Establish open communication with external healthcare providers to advocate for essential health services.
- Complete the coordination and process of training delegated nursing tasks and provide ongoing support.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Active Registered Nurse licensure for Delaware without restrictions.
- Developmental Disabilities Nursing Association Accreditation preferred.
- A minimum of one year of general nursing experience is required; additional IDD experience is preferred.
- Certification in CPR & First Aid.
- Valid driver's license.
