Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) maintains the delivery of quality care by ensuring the nursing care plan is followed. The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees.
Responsibilities
- Perform a nursing assessment on all patients within 8 hours of admission to create an individualized plan of care.
- Identify teaching needs and goals related to each patient's diagnosis through collaboration with patients and the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide timely patient information and status updates for team conferences.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record.
- Participate in the patient rehabilitation program, prioritizing education for patients and their families.
- Initiate discharge planning on the day of admission and commence patient teaching for discharge.
- Communicate changes in patient status to care providers to support continuity of care and safety.
- Supervise and train ancillary nursing personnel, providing direction and delegation as necessary.
- Maintain a safe environment following hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
- Contribute positively to unit functioning by providing calm direction and reassurance.
- Maintain communication with management related to service needs and ensure effective care delivery.
- Assume charge responsibility as required after orientation.
- Pursue professional growth and continuing education actively.
- Prioritize activities for effective time and staff management.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- BLS Certification required prior to first shift.
- ACLS required prior to first shift (specific to certain locations).
- Minimum of two (2) years of bedside clinical experience is highly desired.
