Registered Respiratory Therapist

Schedule

6:45 PM - 7:15 AM, 3 shifts of 12 hours per week, includes every other weekend and holiday. No call time required.

Job Description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care in various settings within the Health Center. Key duties include administering aerosol therapy, airway clearance, and conducting blood gas analysis, as well as endotracheal intubation and ventilator management.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and evaluate the effectiveness of care.
• Provide basic respiratory care, including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway clearance, incentive spirometry, BiPAP, and blood gas analysis.
• Conduct complex respiratory procedures such as endotracheal intubation and ventilator management.
• Use critical thinking skills to resolve clinical issues and optimize patient care.
• Assess learning needs of patients and/or their families and provide relevant education.
• Respond to Code-Blues, Code-Pinks, Rapid Response Teams, and Trauma Teams.
• Document care provided in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Communicate openly with all members of the healthcare team, including SBAR handoffs and reporting of critical test results.
• Actively participate in process improvement activities.
• Perform non-patient care duties related to respiratory care, such as equipment troubleshooting and blood gas analyzer preventive maintenance.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• High school diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science with a major in respiratory care.
• Clinical experience during respiratory care training.
• Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Must hold a valid Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License issued by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board.
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NRP certifications are required.
