Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, focusing on intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed. This role involves minimal supervision and requires the evaluation of patients to recommend treatment plans. The therapist will explain treatment purposes and procedures, as well as provide necessary education upon patient discharge.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
- Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using different methods based on patient needs.
- Monitor oximetry and capnography according to established policies.
- Review patient chest x-rays routinely for evaluation needs.
- Perform 12-Lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition.
- Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care related procedures.
- Perform and manage tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
- Carry out arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency through testing.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory policies and perform necessary maintenance on equipment.
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding patient care and treatment efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of treatments and patient responses, including pre and post-assessment documentation.
- Engage in walking rounds for effective shift-to-shift communication.
- Ensure proper billing through accurate data entry and error correction of respiratory therapy charges.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Candidates must possess a valid Respiratory Therapy license and relevant certifications.
