Job Description

The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. The role requires participation in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care, functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques, with knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
• Maintain and check all items for proper packaging, processing, and sterile integrity.
• Monitor sterile field for contamination and notify the team for corrective action under supervision.
• Work towards competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Contribute to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice.
• Communicate effectively with the perioperative team and participate in Time Out Process.
• Assist in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
• Model professional behavior and stay current on new technologies and procedures.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Role model principles of a Just Culture.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado required.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
• Must possess necessary computer skills to complete online learning requirements.
