Respiratory Therapist

Schedule

This position requires a night shift schedule of 4 days per week, with 12-hour shifts.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. They evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans, explain procedures and equipment, and provide necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory, oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography as per policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays for further evaluation when needed.
• Conduct 12-Lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Perform pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care procedures.
• Carry out tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Adhere to laboratory testing policies including specimen handling and result reporting for hospitals with moderate complexity labs.
• Execute cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and self-test all ventilatory equipment, operating and monitoring mechanical ventilation.
• Maintain accurate records of treatments and patient responses, communicating effectively with the healthcare team.
• Ensure proper respiratory therapy charging and documentation.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Candidates must possess a valid Respiratory Therapist license and relevant certifications as required for the position.
