Tissue Processing Technologist - Day Shift - 12 x 3

Job Description

As a Tissue Processing Technologist, you will process and prepare various types of tissue samples using a variety of techniques in a clinical laboratory. This role includes responsibilities related to both surgical and autopsy tissue specimens, ensuring high-quality standards at each phase of processing and staining.

Responsibilities

• Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping.
• Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location, including minute biopsy protocols.
• Perform quality control checks at each phase of processing and staining.
• Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation.
• Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels for patient identification.
• Demonstrate progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
• Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
• Perform ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree with at least 60 semester hours of academic credit in biology and chemistry.
• 2 Years of experience is required.
• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Schedule

This position is for the Day Shift, operating on a 12-hour schedule with a 3-day work week.
