Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will support eye care services for patients of all ages in an optometry setting. The role involves developing skills as an optometry assistant through on-the-job training and self-directed learning. Key responsibilities include customer service, attention to detail, effective communication, and precise documentation.

Responsibilities

• Room and screen patients for providers; perform optical and point-of-care lab testing.
• Document patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist patients with optical orders including benefits verification, frame selection, and order entry.
• Manage inventory by ordering, cleaning, and placing frames.
• Acquire ocular imaging such as photos and visual fields; enter images into medical records.
• Provide administrative support including patient triage, scheduling, and answering phone inquiries.
• Collaborate with Referral Care Coordinators and other healthcare providers to facilitate patient referrals.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Current National Medical Assistant Certification is mandatory.
• One year of medical assistant experience.
• BLS certification is required.
