Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Assignment Duration

This is a flexible 22-26 week contract position, which must run through the holidays.

Schedule

Shift rotations include day, night, weekend, and holiday schedules: 7a-7pm and 7pm-7am.

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, identifying urgent or emergent care priorities, and providing direct care while utilizing various procedures and interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct triage assessments that establish rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing updates.
• Perform primary assessments of critical needs and document deviations from norms for all age groups.
• Assess psychosocial needs and report any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and manage post-emergency care referrals.
• Educate patients and families on continued care needs and assess learning retention.
• Maintain a healing environment and ensure patient needs are met throughout their ER visit.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only).
• At least 2 years of acute hospital experience in the Emergency Department as a registered professional nurse.
• Current New York State RN Licensure.
