Job Description

The Surgical Technician is responsible for the care and safety of the patient during surgical procedures, providing technical assistance in the Operating Room. This role requires knowledge relevant to the ages of patients served and entails preparing the room with nursing staff in a timely and organized manner, while adhering to the principles of asepsis.

Responsibilities

• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize all equipment in the OR and Endoscopic Lab.
• Coordinate care of the patient with the RN Circulator.
• Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures.
• Assist physicians during surgical procedures, ensuring correct instrumentation is organized and available.
• Follow verbal physician orders in the operating suite.
• Handle surgical specimens and compile necessary equipment on the surgical field.
• Document unusual occurrences and other departmental forms as required.
• Perform CPR as needed and proficiently use all applicable instruments and equipment.
• Transport patients to and from the OR.
• Monitor surgical equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Complete duties as technical scrub in OR and prepare room and equipment for Endoscopy procedures.
• Maintain a cooperative disposition within the OR room.

Required Experience

Experience in surgical technology and knowledge of aseptic techniques are required.

Certifications/Licensure

CERTIFICATION IN SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY is preferred; valid CPR certification is required.
