Job Description

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role as a member of the healthcare team by exercising sound nursing judgment based on preparation, knowledge, and competency. The LPN participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or other licensed UPMC provider in settings such as medical/surgical, telemetry, or emergency departments.

Responsibilities

• Exercise sound nursing judgment and provide care following UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines and policies.
• Communicate with the healthcare team to seek guidance on patient care needs exceeding the LPN's scope of practice.
• Formulate daily goals and plans of care that involve the patient as a partner.
• Document patient conditions comprehensively to promote effective communication among caregivers.
• Build compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to enhance the patient experience.
• Actively participate in unit activities and assist team members as needed.
• Provide effective teaching to patients and families to navigate their care and transitions.
• Develop productive working relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability and commitment.
• Identify and communicate safety hazards in the workplace.

Required Experience

2 years of nursing experience is required.

Certifications / Licensure

• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Pennsylvania.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Completion of PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, and PA Act 73 requirements.
