Job Description

The Surgical Technician assists with surgical procedures through scrubbing duties. Responsibilities include preparing for procedures, assisting the operative team, and maintaining sterile supplies.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a sterile field.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning before use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Scrub all surgical procedures and understand the special needs, techniques, and requirements of the individual surgeon.
• Assist RN with completion of operative charge and recording of hardware used during procedure.
• Collect specimens and cultures, verifying source and correct tissue identification with surgeon.

Required Experience

One year experience in the operating room as a Surgical Technician or Surgical Technician training required.

Certifications / Licensure

• High school diploma required.
• Certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.
