Job Description

Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, the Radiation Therapist delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed and obtains localization images according to the planned treatment delivery. This role includes assisting in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization, performing measurements for treatment calculation, and documenting data acquired during simulation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform treatment, simulation, fabrication of immobilization devices, shielding, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy procedures as per written prescriptions and treatment plans.
• Collect and document data acquired during simulation procedures, ensuring accurate input into the verify-and-record system.
• Provide safety in patient care through adherence to departmental procedures for treatment administration.
• Recognize and report deviations from prescribed treatment delivery to the Chief Therapist / Physicist.
• Ensure quality treatment delivery by maintaining complete and accurate documentation of treatment records.
• Take portal images to assure quality and consistency of treatment portal placement.
• Explain treatment procedures to patients and/or their families, addressing concerns and referring medical inquiries as necessary.
• Observe patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments, communicating findings to appropriate staff.
• Maintain a safe, orderly treatment room and demonstrate proficiency in necessary computer applications.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program from a JRCERT-accredited institution.
• 2 years of experience required.
• ARRT Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, PA Act 73 certifications.
